Kundalini Rising

No, I wasn’t experiencing a seizure or watching a horror movie. What occurred is what I would assume is Kundalini Rising, an explosion of energy moving throughout your body.

Let me quickly recap the events that lead to this awakening. Typical Friday night with, let’s call him 007, dinner, wine, and me laughing at his cynicism. His cynicism is one of the many things I adore about him. Soon I want to dance and he agrees after a bit of nudging. He holds me close and we sway to Otis Redding’s Try a Little Tenderness. Before I knew it he asks, ‘May I?’ and words were no longer necessary.

As a woman in her mid-40s, I reflect on this question daily: How the hell did I go through a 10-year marriage, followed by a seven-year relationship without someone understanding my body’s yearning?

I dubbed his understanding and attention to detail mindfulness in the bedroom. It’s a nod to his awareness of my body language. He always asks for permission before kissing but when he does, there’s not an ounce of hesitation. This particular night was no different, well almost no different. Perhaps the difference was in me that I felt free to be me, that I sensed what my body wanted. I allowed myself to be fully aware and free. I had nothing to hide, but instead, rejoiced that our energies collided. We had both released our barriers. There was nothing blocking our Kundalini, there were just two people who were present and aware.

This event occurred years ago and thinking about it still sends chills throughout my body.
